There was a time when people were reticent about discussing their “stress” or “mental health” issues with others, rather staying secluded and dealing with problems themselves. If they did, they would generally be told to “get a grip” or “pull themselves together”

 Thankfully, society is much more enlightened in this particular area nowadays and people are much more comfortable in talking about their state of “mental health” in the same way they would talk about their “physical health”. This programme therefore, seeks to create an awareness of this particular field and to explain the differences between “mental health” and “mental illness”. It allows participants to understand the symptoms of mental illness and to consider strategies to influence positive mental health.

The programme is designed to allow participants to:

• –  Identify what is meant by “mental health” and “mental illness”
• –  Glean an understanding of many “mental health” terms and conditions used in society such as “Schizophrenia”, “Bi-Polar”, –  “Self-Harm”, “Depression” and “Clinical Depression”
• –  Identify many of the symptoms of “Mental Illness” conditions
• –  Consider plans and strategies to take control of their mental health and analyse positive practical actions for positive mental health
